Ludhiana: It was her 9th birthday and she definitely wanted to celebrate it by cutting a cake with her family. But her dream seemed impossible in view of lockdown. But then, Ludhiana police gave her what she dreamt of. Carrying a cake, cops greeted the little Sukhmanpreet Kaur with a birthday song.
Sukhmanpreet of Punjab Mata Nagar was overjoyed to get a birthday cake from cops. Other area residents also captured the moment in his mobile phones and circulated it on different social media platforms.
Speaking to TOI, Sukhmanpreet said, “Every time I used to celebrate my birthday with friends by cutting a cake. But this time, I was missing my friends. I also saw a video of Punjab Police of delivering a cake to celebrate birthday of a one-year-old girl. So, I asked my uncle to call up police if they can get me a birthday cake.”
“Some children are scared of police, but I love them because they got me a cake. This is my best birthday,” she said.
Father Arvinderpal Singh said, “I don’t have words to thank the cops, especially in-charge of police post SBS Nagar who got my daughter a birthday cake. My brother called him to seek help in getting a cake, but he sent one through some cops. Cops are going beyond their duty for which they should be appreciated.”
After receiving cake, the family also raised slogans ‘Punjab Police Zindabad’ to show their gratitude for cops.
ASI Sunil Kumar, in-charge, SBS Nagar police post, said, “In initial days of curfew, Sukhmanpreet’s paternal uncle Gurwinderpal Singh worked tirelessly with cops, in distributing langar. Today, he called me and said that his niece wants to celebrate her birthday, but they are not getting a cake from anywhere.”
“So, I called a lady who was known to me and requested her to bake a cake for the birthday girl. As soon as the cake was ready, I asked PCR cops to reach there with a cake. I am glad that we could give her some joy on her special day,” the ASI said.
