Gov. Gina Raimondo plans to announce today that Rhode Island schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year, and distance learning will continue through June, according to a source with knowledge of her plans.

Rhode Island schools were last open on Friday, March 13. At that time, Raimondo announced that April vacation week would be moved up to March 16-20, giving schools time to submit plans for distance learning.

Distance learning has been taking place since March 23.

The governor will address the state at 1 p.m. today.

Earlier this week, Masachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker also closed all school buildings in his state through the end of the academic year.
