Since the lockdown, the Goa police have been adopting innovative methods to create awareness on coronavirus as well as on maintaining traffic discipline. Composing songs, singing, posters etc, even police personnel have reached out to the needy by helping them with food supplies and other aspects. Goa police is also active on social media creating awareness on the lockdown and its rules.

A day ago a policeman dressed up as ‘yamaraj’ was in the market at Curchorem, asking motorists to follow traffic rules and also providing information on the lockdown. The policeman, head constable Vijay Dessai is attached to the traffic cell, Curchorem.

Police personnel across the state are being encouraged to come up with ideas to create awareness on various issues, said SP Shobhit Saksena who is heading the Goa police’s social media cell.

“All creative talents are encouraged and the only requirement is that it should be beneficial to the people and it should be spreading awareness”, said Saksena.

Yesterday, Dessai dressed up as ‘yamaraja’ and conducted an awareness drive at a market in Curchorem. Dessai is also into theater and he had put up before senior police officials the idea of creating awareness by donning the avtar of ‘yamaraja’. Subsequently he was granted permission, said Saksena.

Through such creative ideas if there is a lasting impression then it will be replicated in other areas as well, said Saksena.

“We are encouraging all sorts of creative talents to come up during this time, not only to create awareness on the lockdown but also on traffic rules and regulations” said Saksena.

He informed that, “Everyone is doing whatever they can to spread awareness and ensure that the lockdown is maintained without any physical coercion”.

Referring to one of the police person’s initiative, Saksena said that ASI Varsha Kelekar attached to Dabolim airport apart from her regular duties, is making facemasks and prepares food which she distributes amongst the needy people.
