NAVI MUMBAI: Panvel city police raided a chawl at Pethgaon past midnight on Wednesday, where illicit
liquor was being manufactured by three men.
One escaped, while the others, including a repeat offender, were arrested. Police seized seven litres of illicit liquor and a gas cylinder, stove and ingredients meant for making 300 litres of liquor worth Rs17,300.
Senior inspector Ajay Landge said Anant Surte (57) and Chotu Rathod (38) were residents of Pethgaon. Rathod was arrested with two aides on April 17, when an illicit liquor manufacturing joint in Usarli village, adjacent to Panvel-Pen railway tracks, was raided. Police had seized 810 litres of chemicals for illicit liquor worth around Rs23,000. A Panvel court freed them on bail.
