FALL RIVER - Gov. Charlie Baker announced on Wednesday that Fall River would expand testing for Covid-19, through SSTAR’s Community Health Center.

Starting on Monday, May 4, SSTAR will be offering drive-through testing by appointment only. Hours of the testing site will be 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. In order to obtain a test, patients must call SSTAR at 508-679-5222 and ask to be scheduled for a test. Patients without insurance or a primary care physician can ask to have a telehealth screening by one of SSTAR’s medical personnel.

This drive-through testing is made possible through the governor's work with Quest Labs. In addition, Merrow Manufacturing of Bedford Street, Fall River, is supplying the gowns which will be used by SSTAR personnel.

“Without the support of Charlie Merrow and his staff supplying the medical grade protection, this drive-through site would not be possible, “said Director Dr George Maxted.

Tess Curran, director of the Fall River Department of Health said, “We are pleased to have more testing available in Fall River. It is only with such testing data that we can understand the disease prevalence within the city and develop strategies to contain it. “

Two hundred and fifty tests each week will be conducted through SSTAR.
