GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Wednesday introduced a ban on spitting and urinating in the public places. According to officials, a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed on violators.
MCG commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh issued a public notice on Wednesday stating the ban on spitting and urinating as a preventive measure against Covid-19.
The ministry of home affairs (MHA) had issued National Directives for Covid-19 Management on April 15 where it made spitting in public places punishable with a fine. “The public notice is issued to ensure strict compliance of the directives issued by the MHA,” the MCG commissioner said.
“Spitting or urinating in the public places is strictly prohibited in the entire area falling under the jurisdiction of Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 with immediate effect. Any person found violating the aforesaid directive shall be punished with a fine of Rs 1,000 on the spot by the officials of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 authorised in this behalf,” read the public notice issued by the MCG commissioner.
According to the guidelines issued by the MHA, the National Directives for Covid-19 Management will be enforced through fines and penal actions as prescribed in the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
The directives issued include wearing masks at public and work places, which Gurugram has already implemented. It also states that there should be strict ban on the sale of liquor, gutka and tobacco and spitting should be strictly prohibited. The directives also prohibits gathering of five or more than five people.
The MHA issued these guidelines on April 15 following which the states started implementing it.
On April 18, the New Delhi Municipal Council also issued a public notice urging people not to spit and urinate in public places and fixed a penalty of Rs 1,000 on violators.
