Many customers revealed the product was sold out by the time they arrived at the store while others were delighted with their new fire pit.

'Looking outside my kitchen window... I said to hubby we need to fill that bare space in the backyard. Thanks to ALDI, we now have a fire pit area... I was first in line. I knew they would get snapped up,' one mother said.

'Never in a million years did I think a suburban backyard with no grass and white paves could have a little winter area. Fired her up last night and had a great time with the kids and a few drinks.'

Other mothers said they love their new fire pit after setting up a retreat in the yard.

'I got one too, was first in line at Aldi at 8am and glad I was,' another said.

Hundreds of customers said they wanted to add the piece to their outdoor setting so it could bring some warmth to their backyard.

'This would be perfect for my backyard. We could sit around the fire and toast marshmallows with the kids outside,' one mother said.

And another said: 'I need this for the BBQ and margarita nights, can have marshmallows too.'

An Aldi spokesperson urged shoppers to keep a look out for the fire pit at their local stores over the coming days as they are currently experiencing delays.

'Special Buys may be delayed into stores as we are prioritising the delivery of our essentials. We recommend keeping an eye out in the middle aisle when you do your groceries,' the spokesperson said on Facebook.

'Unfortunately, we can't determine stock levels from here, but we recommend asking the team at your local ALDI next time you're in store for groceries. They'll be able to help with stock availability in your area.'

The retailer has been prioritising essential grocery items during the COVID-19 crisis after supermarkets around the country struggled to cope with a surge in demand.

'We are currently prioritising the transport and distribution of our core grocery items and this may result in some advertised Special Buys not being available on the advertised on-sale date,' Aldi said in a statement in March.

'We will try our best to limit this impact. We ask for your understanding and apologise if you are inconvenienced.'
