Cops on 350km bike ride doze off, crash and fall from flyover

Gurgaon: Two UP Police constables suffered serious injuries after their motorcycle hit a road divider on KMP Expressway and fell off a flyover on Wednesday. The policemen, who are from Mahendergarh and Hisar districts, were making a 350-km trip to Aligarh — where they are posted — on a motorcycle in the absence of public transport due to the lockdown and crashed into the divider as they had dozed off, police said.
The constables have been identified as Mahendergarh resident Sunil Sharma and Ravi Khan, who is from Hansi in Hisar. The duo had had joined UP Police in 2018. They had come to their hometowns a few days ago for some personal work on Sharma’s bike as they couldn’t avail public transport.
On Wednesday morning, Sharma started from Hansi and picked up Khan on the way. They were in police uniform to pass through police checkposts in the route. Around noon, they were crossing Wazirpur when Sharma, who was riding the bike, lost control and hit a divider. The impact of the collision was so strong that both men and the bike fell off the flyover and suffered injuries. Commuters informed police, and a team from Farrukhnagar police station soon reached the spot and took the injured policemen to the government hospital in Sector 10.
Police said the constables are unfit for providing statements, but it appears that the duo dozed off on the empty expressway. “Their families were informed and they are under treatment,” Farukhnagar police station SHO Sambit Kumar said.
