Goa gets `177.72 crore under Finance Commission

The state has received Rs 177.72 crore as its share of central taxes and duties for April as per the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.


The Union finance ministry sanctioned the release of Rs 46,038.10 crore to states as their shares of central taxes and duties for April on Monday.
The ministry said that in order to assist states effectively address the situation arising out of the COVID19 pandemic, as a special dispensation, the calculation of net proceeds of shareable taxes has been kept unchanged as per budget 2020-21.
The N K Singh-led 15th Finance Commission has assigned 41 per cent of the central taxes to the states and Union territories and one per cent to the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.


Among the small states, Goa has received the lowest share of Rs 177.72 crore in terms of amount.


The latest sanction of the central funds comes after the Centre released Rs 17,287 crore to various states on April 3 as its share to the state disaster response mitigation fund (SDRMF) and revenue deficit grants to enhance financial resources of states in their COVID-19 operations – the state government had received Rs 6 crore.
Many states, including Goa, have been urging the Centre to release more funds in the form of special packages over and above clearing their pending dues to help the states’ finance their battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.
