Pune: Many organisations and corporates have come forward to help the authorities and common people in battle against COVID-19.
Employees of Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) contributed Rs 5 crore to the PM-CARES Fund (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation Fund). Through all the 32 zonal offices countrywide, the bank has undertaken activities to support Corona Warriors by distributing face masks, gloves, water bottles, food packets, umbrellas, grocery items etc.
Commercial vehicle manufacturer Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd (PVPL) will be arranging free supplies of ration kits to 1,000 migrant labourers of Pune and Baramati to ensure basic food security for a month.
PVPL is also helping in providing infrastructure support to Pune’s Sassoon Government Hospital by providing PPE kits and sanitisation infrastructure. It is setting up an isolation centre in Baramati as well and has started procuring medical equipment for the same.
Pune-based NGO Punyabhushan Foundation has helped by providing ration kits to the fourth level staff and paramedical staff of Naidu Hospital.
Corporated across the country are lending a helping hand to fight the pandemic. Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts and Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons has contributed Rs 1,500 crore to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. While Wipro Limited, Wipro Enterprises and Azim Premji Foundation have jointly committed Rs 1,125 crore.
The Mukesh Ambani-led RIL has announced a Rs 500 crore donation towards PM-CARES.
It had also announced that it had set up a dedicated 100-bedded centre at Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai.
The RIL has also donated Rs 5 crore each to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. It also said it would make one lakh masks daily for medical workers.
The Aditya Birla Group has committed Rs 500 crore. Also, digital payments firm Paytm has pledged to contribute Rs 500 crore towards the PM-CARES Fund. Vedanta Resources Limited and Chairman Anil Agarwal have committed Rs 201 crore towards tackling the novel coronavirus pandemic and Rs 150 crore to the PM-CARES fund; the HDFC Group also joined the fight against COVID-19.
Engineering major Larsen & Toubro has also donated Rs 150 crore towards the PM-CARES fund. It has also set aside Rs 500 crore for supporting 1.6 contract workers by continuing to pay their salaries.
The Infosys Foundation has committed Rs 100 crore towards fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic. Of the total amount, Rs 50 crore has been contributed to the PM-CARES fund.
The Bajaj Group has also committed Rs 100 crore to fight the dreaded coronavirus.
