IIIT admission 2020: All you need to know

Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are autonomous institutions of higher education in India which focuses on Information Technology and Communication Studies. Of all 25 IIITs in India, five of them are established, funded and managed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The rest IITs have been set up on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The list of IIITs in India
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior is the first IIIT in India, established in 1997 and has been monitored by MHRD. The second IIIT in India was established in Allahabad in 1999. In the NIRF 2019 ranking, IIIT Allahabad was awarded 82nd position. Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Jabalpur bagged 75th rank. IIITM Gwalior secured 81st position in the NIRF ranking 2019.

Courses at IIITs
IIITs are more popular for their Engineering courses such as B.Tech, M.Tech and Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech). Besides these programmes, IIITs also offer courses such as Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Master of Design (M.Des.), MBA (Masters of Business Administration) and
PhD (Doctorate of Philosophy).
IIIT Admission
Although the IIITs are autonomous, they are linked to each other through a common admission process. Candidates who want to get admission to UG programmes and Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech) programmes need to qualify the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains exam. National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts JEE Main twice a year for admission to various programmes in IITs, IIITs, NITs, and CFTI.
Admission to M.Tech programmes is being done through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination. Candidates who want to pursue MBA in IIITs need to qualify the Common Admission Test (CAT) exam. Admissions for PhD in IIITs are made through a regular admission process as well as Rolling mode. Regular Admissions for all disciplines are made in Mar-April and Nov-Dec every year. Institutes will conduct in house entrance examinations for PhD admission.
