PANCHKULA: Of the total 14 lanes on both the sides of the Chandimandir
toll plaza, only two lanes each side was opened for public on Monday, the first of relaxation since the
lockdown was imposed on March 23.
According to information given by the officials of the toll plaza, less number of vehicles was seen on the road. Two lanes, including one cash lane and one FasTag lane, were opened and worked effectively throughout the day without any problem.
Sources said the staff at the toll plaza is limited as they had gone back to their hometown after the lockdown was announced and were having a tough time coming back to work.
The authorities said at present, they have enough staff to handle the traffic movement and the work is going on smoothly.
The staff members at the toll plaza said they are happy to come back to work after almost amonth, but a lot of things have changed, including wearing masks, gloves, using sanitiser, maintaining social distancing and wearing goggles, all the time at work.
Sources said that an average of 30,000 vehicles crossed the toll plaza during the normal days, but on Monday, only 4,144 vehicles crossed from 12 midnight to 5 pm on Monday.
Apart from this, a few industrial or commercial units also opened on Monday and the training to maintain all precautions for the staff has been given to the units. A special committee in this regard has also been formed who will check and make sure that everyone is following the norms issued to them.
