AHMEDABAD: With over 25 police personnel infected by Covid-19, the city police commissioner, Ashish Bhatia, has instructed policemen to avoid human contact and not to make spot arrests of any accused from affected areas except in serious offences.
Bhatia said the decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of personnel as they are the frontline warriors and the city cannot afford to have their ranks thinned. The affected cops are being treated at government-run hospitals including SVP Hospital, Sola Civil Hospital and Civil Hosptial, Asarwa.
“For lockdown violations, the accused will be booked and will be served notice to appear at the police station once the situation normalizes,” Bhatia said. Ahmedabad is one of the national Covid-19 hotspots and the entire walled city and Danilimda area continue to throw up positive cases daily. The directive not to make arrests is especially for these areas.
‘Take four Vitamin C pills’
The doctor then tells the cop to collect vitamin C tablets from her and take four of them every day. Citing some health ministry report, she claims that such measures will boost immunity enough to kill the novel coronavirus inside the body.
The health official works with the Khadia urban health centre and was appointed as the coordinating officer for Khadia police. Six cops of Khadia police have tested positive. Three are admitted to SVP Hospital in Ellisbridge and three are quarantined in the Samras hostel of Gujarat University in Navrangpura.
The police official confirmed the clip was indeed of his conversation with the medical officer. “I asked about my report at around 3.30pm on Sunday. It confirmed I had Covid, at around 9pm.
