Daily sports briefs | Ole's not gunnar spend £200 million on Harry Kane, who should be the next Proteas Test skipper - and more!

WHERE IS CHESLIN?

We noted respected rugby writer Herman Mostert's all time Springbok XV in the professional era with interest. While every rugby fan in South Africa will likely differ in their opinions, we think Mostert got his selections spot on ... almost! We would have had 2019 Rugby World Cup star Cheslin Kolbe over JP Pietersen and man mountain Frans Malherbe at tighthead instead of Cobus Visagie.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: Still 13/15 is a pretty good score and gets a pass with distinction from the MyTwoCents team!

OLE NOT GUNNAR SPEND £200 MILLION ON KANE

It appears that Manchester United's on-off pursuit of Tottenham's Harry Kane is now off. Amid the coronavirus cash crunch, United are no longer keen on risking £200m on a player with a history of ankle injuries. Besides, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that he has enough striking talent in Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: Kane is good but not worth that price in the current environment. Solskjaer is right in backing the talented Rashford and Greenwood.

WHO SHOULD BE PROTEAS TEST SKIPPER?

Amid the somewhat surprising news that the Proteas cricket bosses are not looking at QDK as Test captain, we take a look at who we think should be next in line for the coveted role. Dean Elgar current vice-captain is a solid if unspectacular player who commands respect but we think he is nearing the end of his career. Temba Bavuma, despite being a star in the short format, just hasn't cut it at test level. KG Rabada would have been the first choice if he had shown better discipline over the years. Aiden Markram? Talented but nowhere near a regular right now. Needs to sort himself out first. Which leaves ...

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: ... Rassie van der Dussen. Level-headed, composed, BMT. Lungi Ngidi would have been an outside choice but he is still a bit raw.

NEW ORDER FOR CRICKET HYGIENE

With hygiene now being thrust into the forefront of everything, there has been some speculation as to how cricket will adapt. Will saliva still be allowed to shine the ball? Will umpires still be required to handle the sweaty caps and towels of bowlers? Likewise will the 12th man be required to risk his life to ferry sweaty gloves off the field?

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: To think we were once worried about sandpaper being kept in players drawers.

EXPERT "JUMPS THE GUN" ON OLYMPIC 2021 CANCELLATION

A professor of infectious diseases at Kobe University in Japan, Kentaro Iwata, has stated that he believes that the Olympic Games in 2021 will not go ahead as planned. He does not believe the virus would have subsided sufficiently by then and that the health system is on the verge of collapse in many parts of Japan.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: Easy tiger! With the Olympics around 15 months away we think it's way too early to be making calls like that.
