4 Covid patients recover in Jharkhand, but 4 fresh cases emerge

Ranchi: Even as Jharkhand reported four new Covid-19 cases on Monday, including the first one from Deoghar district, some good news came in as state health minister Banna Gupta said four patients, including the 22-year-old Malaysian woman who became the state’s first coronavirus patient when she tested positive in Ranchi on March 31, had recovered from the disease.
The state has now recorded 45 corona virus cases. Of these 39 are active, four have recovered and two have died.
Two of the cured patients are from Hazaribag district’s Bishnugarh block who were treated by a team of doctors of Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital. A 17-year-old from Simdega has also recovered with his tests returning negative on Monday.
In a post on social media, Gupta applauded health workers for their “dedicated service”. He said, “It is a result of the hard work of our health workers that four Covid-19 patients in the state have recovered. I congratulate all the health workers who have played a vital role in their treatment and hope that with our best efforts others will recover soon and return home in good health.”
Dr Devesh Kumar, a doctor at Rims trauma centre, said, “Two tests conducted on the Malaysian woman in the last 24 hours confirm that she has been cured. She had suffered mild diarrhoea and gastric issues, but she has been fine and asymptomatic in the last 16 days.”
Meanwhile, the state recorded four fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday —one each from Ranchi, Hazaribag, Bokaro and Deoghar, which became the eighth district in the state to be affected by the new virus.
A 17-year-old male with a travel history to Punjab became the first case in the district known for its iconic Shiva temple. “He is a resident of Gamharia village in Sarwan block. He was under quarantine since he returned from in the last week of March. We are tracing his contacts,” Deoghar DC Nancy Sahay said.
In Ranchi, the 14-year-old girl tested positive. She is the daughter of a Hydri Apartment resident who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Sunday. “We had isolated four members of his family. The other three have tested negative,” Ranchi SSDM Lokesh Mishra said.
In Hazaribag, a 27-year-old man from Kumardiha village under Barkagaon block has tested positive for the disease. “This is the first case in the district outside Bishnugarh block. We have isolated the patient and are tracing his contacts and the likely source of infection,” Hazariabg DC Bhuvnesh Prasad Singh said.
Bokaro district recorded it’s 10th case on Monday, the first after a gap six days. “A 60-year-old man who was under quarantine has tested positive. He is the brother of a patient who died in hospital on April 9. Four from this family in Sadam Village have already tested positive,” Bokaro civil surgeon Dr A K Pathak said.
