MUMBAI: As many as 53 of 171 mediapersons who had participated in the Covid-19 testing camp for journalists on April 17 have tested positive. The BMC on Monday contacted them and asked them to to stay in home quarantine while arrangements were being made to get them quarantined in a hotel in Goregaon.
Civic officials said many of the affected mediapersons were asymptomatic, but as a precaution they will disinfect areas in the civic headquarters, like the press room, which they visit.
On Monday, mayor Kishori Pednekar decided to home quarantine herself for 14 days. “Last week I had got myself tested for Covid-19 and my report was negative. But I have learnt that a few journalists, who I have interacted with over the last five days, have tested positive and so as a precaution, I have decided to quarantine myself,” she said.
