MANGALURU: District
Armed Reserve (DAR) head constable Shrihari N S has donated half month’s salary to help poor, who face difficulties during
lockdown, in his village in
Dakshina Kannada district.
Shrihari has been helping poor in
Panaje village in
Puttur through Vidyashree Friends
Charitable Trust ever since Covid19 pandemic lockdown began. While he has already donated Rs 15,000 through the Trust, volunteers have already distributed grocery kits containing 10kg of rice, chilly, sugar, onion and cereals to over 100 families.
In fact, Shrihari was also an active office-bearer of the trust 14 years ago before joining the police department. It was Shrihari who boosted the confidence of other members of the Trust to start charity work during lockdown. The Trust has already distributed kits containing grocery and other food items to 110 families in the village.
“Initially, we identified 30 poor families in Panaje village, who are in dire need of help. Later, Trust members continued their efforts to trace poor families in interior parts and provided them with kits. We also have plans to identify middle class families, who are in need of grocery kits,” Shrihari said, adding that the kit distribution will continue with the help of donors.
He also has decided to continue to donate one portion of his salary till the lockdown is withdrawn. “Many donors have come forward offering rice and other items to be distributed among poor. The trust will expand kit distribution programme in neighbouring villages too considering the response from donors,” he added.
Shrihari has been working as a gunman for former minister B
Ramanath Rai for the past eight years.
