Goat nurses antelope babies separated from their mother

The fawns are now at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Borivli, for baby-sitting.
A pair of four-horned antelope babies, separated from their mother, is being nursed by a goat. The fawns ambled out of a forest in Murbad, Thane, last week with goats grazing there. The fawns are now at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Borivli, for baby-sitting.
The fawns, who are too young, were huddled amid the goats, said forest officer of Murbad (west) range, Ramesh Rasal. Dr Jitendra Ramgaokar, deputy conservator of forests (Thane), said they tried to reunite them with the mother, but failed. Now, at SGNP, a goat is playing foster mom to them.

“The goat is being fed tonics and vitamins so the fawns get good quality milk,” said Dr Shailesh Pethe, chief veterinarian. “The fawns are healthy and playful.”
