Subaru’s Electric Crossover Developed With Toyota Could Be Dubbed ‘Evoltis’

The electric crossover which Subaru is developing in conjunction with Toyota could be dubbed the ‘Evoltis’.

Subaru Japan applied to trademark the name ‘Evoltis’ in the U.S. two years ago and, according to unnamed sources from Japan cited by CarBuzz, this name will be applied to the new electric SUV. It’s worth mentioning that neither Subaru nor Toyota have confirmed the name for their joint electric SUV so take this report with a grain of salt.

News out of Top Gear Philippines from earlier this year revealed that the version of the Ascent which buyers in the southeast Asian nation will be able to purchase is set to also be dubbed the Evoltis. The head of Subaru’s Philippines distributor Tan Chong International Glenn Tan confirmed the news with the publication.

It’s unclear if the decision to refer to the Ascent in the Philippines as the Subaru Evoltis will have any impact on the naming of the electric crossover being developed with Toyota and bound for the U.S., among other markets. If two drastically different Subaru models will indeed wear the Evoltis nameplate, it’s pretty obvious the electric one won’t be sold in the Philippines.

Subaru offered the world a glimpse of its forthcoming electric SUV back in January during a technology briefing in Japan. The exterior design of the vehicle is dominated by sharp lines and angular surfaces and sports a set of thin LED headlights. Considering the fact that the vehicle isn’t expected to launch for a few more years, or as Subaru states “before 2025,” there’s a good chance the design of the finished vehicle will change.
