Three persons from Haleem Nagar in the city have been arrested by the police for allegedly threatening an ASHA worker, an accredited community health worker.
Police said the ASHA worker, Sumayya Firdose, who had been deputed to the locality on Monday for a survey to check for symptoms of COVID-19 among the residents, advised a group of people to wear face masks and maintain social distancing, while she was returning home after finishing her work.
But, three persons identified as Mahboob, Khaleel and Yaseen, aged between 30 and 40 years, who were sitting outside their house, entered into an altercation with her and allegedly used foul language before threatening her with dire consequences.
Ms Sumayya Firdose subsequently lodged a complaint with the jurisdictional Narasimharaja police station on Monday night.
Police officials said the altercation, which began with the accused claiming they were sitting outside their houses, soon turned worse with the trio engaging the ASHA worker in a heated verbal exchange. “But, there was no assault,” a police official investigating the matter clarified.
