Haryana: Man out on parole murdered over old enmity in Ambala

AMBALA: A 37-year-old murder convict, who was out on parole from Central Jail Ambala, allegedly murdered by his nephew and his accomplices in Rollon village under limits of Mahesh Nagar police station on Monday.
Gurmej Singh’s wife Pooja Rani lodged a complaint with Ambala police alleging that her husband has been murdered following an old rivalry.
Pooja stated to the police, "In 2015, my husband Gurmej had murdered his elder brother Ranbir Singh and in 2016, he was sentenced imprisonment by a local court. On April 3, Gurmej came out on 42-day parole from Central Jail Ambala, since then he was living with the family at Rollon village. On Monday at around 1pm when I along with Gurmej was buying vegetable outside our home, Ranbir's wife Gurmesh Kaur and his son Manjinder Singh alias Manni came there and started abusing and threatening Gurmej while saying that he murdered Ranbir".
"After some time, Manjinder along with his accomplices Sandeep alias Sanju and an unknown accused came there on a car (Swift) and rammed Gurmej with the vehicle and he fell into a drain. They came out and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons (gandasis). Manjinder’s sister Kuljinder Kaur and his wife Rajni also came there and they attacked me when I was trying to save my husband. My father-in-law Baljit Singh and nephew Randeep also tried to save Gurmej and we shouted for help when villagers gathered there, and THE accused fled the spot in another car (Scorpio)," added Pooja.
"Gurmej was rushed to the civil hospital, Ambala Cantonment, from where he was referred to GMCH, Sector-32, Chandigarh, where he succumbed to his injuries," said Pooja.
A case against accused Manjinder, Gurmesh, Rajni, Kuljinder, Sandeep and an unknown has been registered under Section 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in the prosecution of common object), 188 (disobedience of order of public servant), 302 (punishment for murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mahesh Nagar PS on Monday.
Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Jorwal said, "Gurmej came out on parole on Monday, the two families indulged in a fight and his nephew murdered him and fled the spot with his accomplices. In 2015, Gurmej had murdered his elder brother Ranbir and a total of 13 different criminal cases were registered against him. He has been now murdered by his own family members following the old rivalry".
"So far, no arrests have been made and efforts are being made to nab the accused," added SP Jorwal.
Sources told some years ago the two families had a dispute over property.
