GURUGRAM: Even during lockdown online fraudsters are using different ways to cheat people. According to police, these scamsters are taking advantage of closure of liquor shops and duping people in the name of online delivery of liquor bottles.
Online delivery of liquor is not permitted in Haryana.
A senior police officer told TOI that they are receiving multiple complaints of such frauds related to home delivery of liquor. The complainants said they are receiving calls from unknown persons who identify themselves as the representative of liquor shop owners and offer to do home delivery on advance payment.
“We are receiving multiple complaints about frauds related to home delivery of liquor bottles,” commissioner of police Mohammad Akil said, adding that the police do not allow home delivery or online sale of liquor.
“People should be aware about such fraud calls and do not make payment to anyone offering home delivery of liquor,” Akil added.
Elaborating about the frauds, the police chief said these people call on behalf of popular liquor vends of the city and offer to deliver liquor bottles at the door step. They ask to make advance payment through mobile wallets.
“Many people who are struggling to get liquor during this lockdown period fall easily for such offers. After receiving the payment the caller deactivates the number,” Akil said.
