56-year-old woman succumbs to Covid-19 in Surat, 16 new cases reported on Sunday

SURAT: A 56-year-old woman, identified as Rizwana Jaka of Sani residency in Rander area of Surat city, succumbed to Covid-19 early Sunday, taking the death toll to eight in the city. She was admitted to Mission Hospital on April 14. She was also suffering from blood pressure, Kidney ailment and hypertension. She was undergoing dialysis.
According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), 16 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the city on Sunday.
Health officials said that the final rites of the deceased was performed as per the government protocol.
Till Sunday morning, Surat city has recorded over 210 Covid-19 positive cases and number of cases are on rise as civic body has launched mass-testing in the city.
SMC officials say that they will start antibody test from Sunday. SMC has so far taken 7,715 samples of which 210 tested positive. A total of nine patients have been discharged till now.
