Decision on common PG entrance test after discussing with VCs, says higher education minister
BHUBANESWAR: Higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo here on Saturday said decision of holding common PG entrance test in the state this year will be taken after discussing with vice chancellors of the state public universities. It has become a challenge for the department to hold the examinations early due to the Covid-19 situation.
"We will interact with vice-chancellors of the universities through videoconferencing very soon. In the virtual meeting, we will discuss what can be done for this common PG entrance test," said the minister.
The state government had decided to start this entrance test from this year for admission into PG courses in all state universities. After appearing this one test, students will get a seat in any of the state universities according to his/her eligibility and entrance performance.
Presently, a student has to submit application forms separately for each university and appear for multiple entrance examinations at different dates. It was hectic and tedious. But this system will save the students from applying and appearing for entrance tests separately for different universities.
"This system will bring all universities to a single platform and students will fill a single form and sit for one entrance test for all state universities," said a higher education department official.
The minister conducted a review of the higher education department's next course of action in view of Covid-19 situation. He said the educational institutions will remain closed till June 17. "We will conduct examinations anytime after opening of the colleges and universities. I appeal students to remain prepared for appearing their semester, final year and entrance tests," he added.
Sahoo said a seven-member team has been constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to give a report regarding post lockdown educational activities. "We will go through the report and analyse the situation before taking any steps," he added.
He also said the group-A officers will join office from April 20, but less number of group-C and D staff will come to office.
