'Go on leave without pay from March 25 to May 3': GoAir to majority of employees

NEW DELHI: Airlines have started sending employees on long leaves without pay (LWP) amid the unprecedented uncertainty caused by the corona pandemic on all aspects of life, including resumption of travel. GoAir has asked a majority of its staffers “to proceed on LWP… (with) effect from March 25 till May 3, 2020” and that this period may be extended “if so required.”
SpiceJet is also learnt to be asking a section of employees, those earning over Rs 50,000 per month, to go on LWP rotationally. SpiceJet LWP could be for at least three months from when operations resume.
“We are hopeful that skies will reopen from May 4, 2020, and will resume operations in a phased manner… All your benefits (such as insurance..) with GoAir continues to be valid during the period you are on LWP,” a mail sent by GoAir management to employees says.
“The lockdown has been further extended to May 3, 2020, and our feet continues to be completely grounded. Hence we are constrained to request you to proceed on LWP (with) effect from March 25 till May 3, 2020…. Meanwhile we are working towards building our ability to scale up our operations in the new environment and market conditions that would emerge,” the mail says.
