CHANDIGARH: The UT education department will begin summer vacations in schools from Wednesday. However, the helpline started with the help of school counsellors will continue to be functional and the vacation time will also be utilised to prepare video lectures for online teaching post summer vacation. Distribution of books has also been asked to put on hold. The same was confirmed by Rubinderjit Singh Brar, director, school education.
Government schools in the UT Chandigarh had prepared sets of NCERT books for classes I to VIII as these are provided for free to students from the administration under the Right to Education Act.
“The online classes will remain suspended during the summer vacation. However, teachers will be asked to voluntarily contribute to the content that can be used for online teaching. To support children during this time of distress, school counsellors will continue to remain available for addressing student’s queries and other helpline numbers will also remain functional,” said Brar.
A message was given to all cluster heads asking them to give names of two teachers each for subjects like maths, science, English, social studies, and Hindi from their respective clusters, who can prepare and deliver online sessions for classes VI to X.
Similarly, the schools who had been preparing sets of books for each student studying in classes I to VIII, were asked to wait for further instructions.
Brar said, “Book delivery has been put on hold with announcement of summer vacations.”
The helpline number too has proved to be beneficial for students. The helpline of counsellors was started on April 8 and till date it has received around 4,200 calls.
