Surat records highest single day spike of 22 Covid-19 positive cases on Thursday

SURAT: At least 22 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Surat city on Thursday, the highest single day spike of Covid-19 positive cases in the city. With these new cases, the total number of positive cases in Surat are 83. Five people have succumbed to the global pandemic in Surat till date.
According to Surat municipal corporartion (SMC) officials, out of the 22 Covid-19 positive cases, 14 cases are from Maan Darwaja Apartment alone in the the city.
Earlier on Wednesday, Surat recorded 16 Covid-19 positive cases as civic body has launched mass testing in different parts of the city.
Majority of the positive cases were detected during the community sampling from different parts of the city including central zone, Katargam, Rander, Maandarwaja, Limbayat and Umarwada.
Senior officials said that the Covid-19 disease is shifting from earlier hot spot Rander to new areas in the city as number of Covid-19 positive cases are reported from Central Zone and Limbayat Zone in the city and global pandemic's rapid growth worries civic body even as it has put nearly 2.91 lakh people under containment zone till now.
"Rander was a hot spot till now as Covid-19 cases emerged from that area but now, more cases are emerging from Central zone and Limbayat Zone in the city,'' said Banchhanidhi Pani, Municipal Commissioner, Surat.
On Wednesday, 111 people were penalized for not wearing masks in the city.
