Ludhiana: On Wednesday, 115 fire fighters of Ludhiana were screened and declared fit. The officials said they screened the staff of all five fire stations as a precaution because fire fighters are deployed on field for sanitisation other than putting out fire as and when needed.
The screening took place at central fire station near local Adda, Sunder Nagar fire station, Hambran Road fire station, Gill Road fire station and Focal point fire station. The employees were checked for symptoms of coronovirus.
The assistant divisional fire officer (ADFO) Bhupinder Sandhu said, “We did the tests just as a precaution as the service of firemen is essential and they need to be fit.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, a driver at Sunder Nagar fire station was put under home quarantine. He had brought two mechanics for repair of fan in one of the rooms at the fire station. When the officials figured out that the mechanics were from Amarpura area, the driver was immediately sent home. The room where fan was to be repaired has been locked and fire station was sanitised.
ADFO Sandhu confirmed that a driver had come in contact with two residents from Amarpura so he is home quarantined for 15 days. He will only join duty only after his samples tested negative.
The fire brigade has also received 25 PPE suits from Vardhman group. ADFO Sandhu said they will give these kits to field staff who go for sanitisation in the city areas for their safety.
