Finding it hard to make your kid retire to bed? There might be several hurdles coming along the way, which could be preventing him from sleeping on time. Sleeping late would naturally make a person wake up late and ultimately disrupts the whole cycle.
It has always been said that ‘early to be and early to rise’ is a good habit to have. Here are a few ways to make your kid follow it:
Turn off TV an hour before bedtime
Break your child’s habit of watching TV just before bedtime. Several studies have indicated that watching TV or being exposed to screen light can disrupt the levels of melatonin in our body. Melatonin is an important sleep-wake hormone. When melatonin levels are at their highest, most people are sleepy and ready for bed. Watching TV reduces its production and thus, interferes with the sleep cycle.
Create a sleep-inducing environment
Instead of TVs and phones, make your kid either read books to narrate him a story yourself. This will not only make him practice a good habit of reading but will also let him have a good night’s sleep. You can also draw the curtains and turn off any light emitting source when you put your kid to bed in order to create a sleep-inducing environment.
Set a sleep and wake up time
Setting a schedule always help to follow a particular routine determine your kid’s bedtime along with his wake-up time. Ensure that they complete all their activities by that time and retire to bed punctually. You can give them the freedom to extend this time during weekends, in order to make them follow the routine on weekdays diligently.
Make breakfast interesting
You can add a bait to your kid’s routine by promising them their favorite breakfast. Make sure you don’t incorporate unhealthy foods in the process. Promise them that they will get an interesting breakfast if they wake up on time. Experiment with food and try giving them food which is as healthy as possible. This will not only make them sleep on time but will also make them wake up timely as well.
