Rs 100 fine for venturing out sans masks: Chennai corporation

CHENNAI: To ensure that members of the public use masks to avoid community spread of coronavirus, the corporation on Wednesday said those who venture out without masks will be fined and officials may also seize their vehicles or suspend their driving licences.
"Under section 2 of the Epidemic diseases act, 1897, it is directed that all public under the jurisdiction of Greater Chennai Corporation shall use face mask compulsorily while stepping out of homes for permitted works and needs." an official release said.

Commissioner G Prakash has warned that a penalty of 100 will be levied on pedestrians, while two-wheelers will be seized in case of motorists. "The driving licence will be suspended for a period of six months," said an official release from the office of the commissioner.
