LUDHIANA: The STF arrested a man and his son with 350g
heroin worth Rs 1.75 crore in the international market. The accused — Nachhatar Singh (42) and his son Sonu Singh (22) of Barnala — were arrested from Raikot-Barnala Road.
STF officials said Sonu told cops at checkposts that his father was unwell, and had to be admitted to the hospital. The accused, who were travelling in a white car, were however arrested at a checkpoint near Dadahoor village on Raikot-Barnala Road. Sub-inspector Jaspal Singh, in-charge of STF, Ludhiana Range, said, “Following a tip-off, STF had set up a checkpost. The accused were stopped and 330g heroin was recovered from the car dashboard. On Sonu’s information, 20g more heroin was recovered from their house. The police said Nachhatar has been into drug peddling for almost two decades, and had completed his sentence in two criminal cases.
On how they reached Raikot from Barnala, the SI said, “They were stopped at two checkposts. At Nachhatar checkpost, Sonu lied his father was unwell, and he was taking him to a hospital in Ludhiana.”
