SHIMLA: To ensure that
students from Classes IX to XII residing in the remotest corner of the state benefit through 'Learning from Home' programme through e-learning initiatives during the lockdown period, the
education department of Himachal Pradesh has now proposed to broadcast the study material through television and radio channels.
The department of higher education and Samagra Shikhsa will launch a home-based teacher-facilitated self-study programme for students of Classes IX to XII with the aim to ensure completion of syllabus of critical subjects and no halt in learning till the schools remain closed during the lockdown and curfew.
Director of higher education Amarjeet K Sharma, in a circular issued on Tuesday, said that it has been observed that some of the students do not have compatible mobile phones or media to access the educational content being provided through WhatsApp groups or website. Therefore, the department has planned and proposed to broadcast the study material on TV and radio, for which the process has already been started, he added.
Under this programme, the targeted students will be engaged for three hours on a daily basis from 10am to 1pm. Educational content package of videos & exercises will be sent to all teachers through deputy director higher education, principals and headmasters on a daily basis using WhatsApp groups.
Initially, students of Class IX and X will be taught science, mathematics, Sanskrit, English; students of Class XII (Humanities) will be taught English, Sanskrit, political science; Class XII (commerce) English, economic, mathematics; and Class XII (science) English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology.
According to the circular, educational content will also be available on departmental website www.education.hp.gov.in and https://cutt.ly/hargharpathshala.
The content has been created based on systematic syllabus completion plan created by the state resource group. Deputy directors of higher education will be responsible for the creation of WhatsApp groups of principals and headmasters while latter will be responsible for the creation of groups of teachers who will be further responsible for the creation of groups of students in their respective schools. Notifications and daily content package will be forwarded in these groups on a daily basis.
Teachers will ensure that daily content package provided by competent authorities through WhatsApp groups and websites is shared with students for self-learning and practice and completed by them in a timely manner. They will also ensure feedback of students via WhatsApp.
