Rohtak man gets married to Mexican woman

Dana Joheri with Niranjan
ROHTAK: Many countries across the world are under lockdown, but the restrictions haven't been able to keep some couples from marrying. From a Spanish couple holding a wedding at their window, a South African bride and groom being arrested over a lockdown wedding, to a Rohtak man marrying a Mexican at the Rohtak district courts, they have all beaten the coronavirus lockdown.
Niranjan Kashyap, 22, an alumnus of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and Dana Joheri Oliveros Cruise, 21, of Mexico, first met online in 2016 through a language learning application. Nirajan was learning Spanish and Dana was his tutor and also taking English lessons on the app.
Love blossomed between them during their exchanges on their cultures, language and lifestyle and Dana flew to India to attend the birthday celebrations of Niranjan in 2017.
She was accompanied by her mother and father who have a business in Mexico. Dana and Nirajan's parents met and the marriage was fixed. Niranjan was a hotel management at that time.
Niranjan said Dana flew back, but they were in regular contact, until she arrived in India with her mother in February and applied for registration of the marriage under provisions of the Special Marriage Act.
"Due to lockdown, the marriage could not be registered on March 18 as per the magistrate court's time, but after we approached the Rohtak district magistrate RS Verma to register our marriage on April 13, he kindly obliged and took extra time in the late evening to get it done," Niranjan added.
He said that his father-in-law was also scheduled to arrive in India on March 30, but his flight got cancelled due to Covid-19.
He said that both families are happy and get along well with each other despite the barriers of language, culture, ethnicity and food habits because of the love of their children.
Dana said that she would be flying back to Mexico on May 5 with her husband and mother and is proud to be associated with India through her husband.
