LUDHIANA: A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at his house in Division 3 on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Gagandeep Singh Dev. He, along with his father and younger brother, ran a fast-food restaurant near Division 3 chowk.
His kin said in a suicide note, Gagandeep has blamed a Division 3 constable and a neighbour for harassing him.
His father, Amarjeet Singh, said, “The constable is a friend of Gagandeep. His family is settled abroad. He was persuading Gagandeep to go aboard and had sought Rs 50 lakh to help him. We all were worried as he was asking for a huge amount. Gagandeep had asked the cop to wait till the lockdown was over, but he kept asking for money. From Monday midnight till 6am Tuesday, the constable made several calls to Gagandeep.”
On Tuesday morning, Gagandeep looked tense. “After breakfast, he went upstairs to his room. Later when his wife went to the room, she found him hanging from the ceiling fan. In the suicide note, Gagandeep has accused the constable and a resident of our locality of harassing him for money,” he added.
The family took Gagandeep to CMC Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Division 3 police station SHO inspector Satish Kumar said, “In the initial inquiry, it has been identified that Gagandeep had strained relations with his father and brother. We also have a call record, in which Gagandeep is telling another resident of the area about it. The case, therefore, is being probed from all angles. Statement of every family member is being recorded. The constable will be booked if he is found guilty.”
