50 retired cops in Ludhiana to don the uniform again

LUDHIANA: Soon, 50 retired cops will rejoin their duties in Ludhiana Commissionerate to help the city police, which is already overworked. Cops have been working 16 hours a day since March 22 to enforce curfew. The Ludhiana Commissionerate has nearly 3,000 cops working to enforce curfew, and also to deliver ration and food from door to door.
On the other hand, a separate team is also handing social medial handles of Ludhiana police, as people are approaching the police on Twitter too. Further, another team is at the control room to operate calls coming on helpline numbers. To share the work burden of these cops, 50 retired police personnel have volunteered to join duty.
Police commissioner Rakesh Agarwal said, “Once a cop, always a cop. To serve society in this tough time, 50 cops have volunteered to work, despite being retired. I have got the list of these cops. These cops will not work on the frontline, as they have all retired, but at the back-end, like in the control room, and into rationing, as we have to take care of their health too.”
The official added that the cops were supposed to join from this week. However, the police administration got busy in the case of ACP who had tested positive for coronavirus. “We will get these retired cops work according to their capabilities. Soon they will join duty,” added Agarwal.
