Investigators 'appalled' after thieves target woman in e-scooter crash

Police are appealing for information after a thief appearing to offer help to a woman injured falling from an e-scooter instead took off with her mobile phone and bank cards.

The 22-year-old woman was sitting on the footpath at the southern end of Brisbane's Kurilpa Bridge about 10.20pm on New Year's Eve when she was approached by the man.

Police say the woman's stolen bank cards were used by the man and a female companion at a number of stores across the city and Gold Coast.Credit:Queensland Police Service

"Instead, the man picked up a number of items including a mobile phone and bank cards from the woman’s purse," police said in a statement.

The man fled north over the bridge where CCTV captured him passing the items to another woman.

Bank cards belonging to the victim were then used to purchase goods from a George Street convenience store 10 minutes later and another Spring Hill store about 11pm.

Nearly two hours later, the cards were used again at a fast food store on Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise.

The incident had left investigators "appalled", police said.
