No promotion of students without exams, decides AU
AU's controller of exams has rejected the demand of 'promotion' raised by different quarters, including the AU teachers association president.

PRAYAGRAJ: Even as lakhs of primary and secondary students are all set to be promoted to the next class, students at Allahabad University and its constituent colleges may have to appear in the final exams and 'earn' their promotions the usual way.
AU's controller of exams has rejected the demand of 'promotion' raised by different quarters, including the AU teachers association president.
"I don't see any rationale in promoting all the students of AU and its constituent colleges without exams, although there has been a delay in completing the examination process I am sure after the lockdown, AU teachers will finish the entire exercise in around a fortnight, which usually takes over a month," said AU's controller of examinations (CoE), Prof RK Singh . The statement bears significance as the president of AUTA Prof Ram Sevak Dubey has demanded that varsity authorities should promote all the students to the next level without exams because of lockdown.
"As soon as the situation will normalise, fresh dates of the exams would be announced. Once the exams are over, the teachers should finish evaluation work within a fortnight so that we can announce the results," said Prof Singh. Speaking on the semester exams, the controller said, "Although most of us are taking classes through various online methods, some students have been unable to attend because of poor connectivity. Once things get normal, we all should take special classes and try to complete as much course as possible so that the students are not at any disadvantage. Then we could have exams of semester courses too."
AU has semester system in almost all post-graduate and professional courses.
Commenting on the issue, former president of AU student union, Rohit Mishra said, "The students are capable of meeting the challenge. The varsity should expedite the process once things become normal."
