Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Tipped To Have 650 HP, Be More Powerful Than The CTS-V

Yesterday, Cadillac confirmed its “ultra-performance” CT5-V would be called the Blackwing and be offered with a manual transmission.

Fast forward to today and Car & Driver is reporting the upcoming model will be equipped with an upgraded version of the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that was used in the CTS-V.

They’re reporting the engine will produce approximately 650 hp (485 kW / 659 PS) which is 10 hp (7 kW / 10 PS) more than its predecessor. There’s no word on how much toque it will have, but it developed 630 lb-ft (855 Nm) in the CTS-V.

The publication goes on to say the engine should be paired to a six-speed manual and a ten-speed automatic. If that’s the case, the latter gearbox would have two more gears than the automatic used in the CTS-V.

Performance specifications are still shrouded in secrecy, but the CTS-V could accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h). However, we can expect the CT5-V Blackwing to be even quicker as Cadillac stated the car was “seconds faster” than the CTS-V at Virginia International Raceway.

The CT5-V Blackwing is expected to debut late this year or early next year, and Car & Driver suggests it will cost around $85,000. That would undercut the 2019 CTS-V which started at $86,995 and ended up costing $89,290 when the gas guzzler tax and delivery fee were included.

Little else is known about the model at this point, but it will feature revised styling, a specially tuned suspension and unique “vehicle control technologies.” A manual will also be available as Cadillac said their “continues to be a strong desire” for them among “many performance driving enthusiasts.”
