GUWAHATI: A 28-year-old mother of three and wife of an active Covid-19 patient from Dhubri district tested positive for coronavirus infection on Wednesday even as two other patients were declared cured and were discharged from a hospital at Sonapur near the city.
With the discharge of two patients and death of one last week, the total active cases in the state now stand at 29.
“Our biggest worry was about her three minor children. Fortunately all the three children tested negative and only their mother got the infection. She has now been kept in an isolation ward along with her husband at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital.”
The husband had contacted the virus at a mosque in Guwahati where he had attended a congregation on March 12 along with eight other who had returned from Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz.
The two cured persons, are from Jagiroad and both had also attended the Tablghi Jamaat after which they tested positive for the highly contagious disease.
“Three positive cases were admitted at Sonapur Covid-19 hospital and two of them have been declared completely cured. As per the protocol, we did two back-to-back tests of their samples on Tuesday and Wednesday and they have tested negative. Their chest x-ray are normal and doctors have certified that they no longer have any symptoms,” Sarma said.
The two persons will now have to spend another 14 days away from home but not in quarantine as per the WHO guidelines. “They will be free to move around, meet family members but cannot go home. We are expecting the others to be completely cured by April 20,” Sarma added. The two are being put at the Jagiraod paper Mill guest house.
Sarma later tweeted, “In midst of gloom, today we wish to cheer! Two #Covid patients, treated at Sonapur Civil Hospital, and were successively tested negative twice as per @ICMRDELHI protocols, are being discharged. They're being sent for a 14-day home quarantine.”
