To deal with the corona epidemic in the country, the central government has decided to enlist the help of health professionals trained under the skill development program. For this, the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has made available the details of about 1.75 lakh trained health professionals to the Chief Secretaries of all states.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), which works under MSDE, has appointed a nodal officer for each state for this. On the demand from the state administration, this nodal officer will have to bear the responsibility of providing these health professionals according to the requirement.

According to the ministry, these professionals have been trained as health workers, emergency medical technicians, general duty assistants, flautomy technicians, home health assistant technicians, etc. and can be used from state isolation centers to quarantine centers.

According to the ministry, 101 public educational institutions in 99 districts of their 17 states have so far made more than 5 lakh masks and made them available to the local administration during the lockdown.

Quarantine centers will be set up in National Skill Training Institutes

MSDE has also allowed all the states to use their 33 National Skills Training Institutes (NSTIs) as quarantine centers or isolation wards. NSTI has also been converted into isolation ward at Panipat in Haryana, Ludhiana in Punjab, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Thiruvananthapuram, and Calicut (Kozhikode) in Kerala. An isolation ward has also been set up in a hostel of NSDC in Chennai.
