VALPOI –

With lockdown into force construction works were stopped affecting several development works in Valpoi.

Most importantly, development project which were underway like construction of culvert connecting the bus stand and the new fire station office project which was underway have been suspended. In addition, the government has imposed serious restrictions on transport and movement of workers from other states besides maintaining social distancing norms making difficult to work on the construction project. However, approaching monsoon is what causing concern to the contractor who was completing the project as well as locals.

Meanwhile, many residents said that this work needs to be completed before monsoon. It is observed that this culvert is important as it connects the Nagargao and Savorde panchayat beside it is connecting the bus stand of Valpoi.
“The culvert work which was initiated recently after several hiccups now has faced the axe of lockdown. No doubt we are caught up in an unprecedented scenario that has captured the whole world in its grip, but government should come out with proper guidelines with respect such type of priority work,” said ward councillor, Ramdas Shirodkar who took the stock of situation at the site. He further told that he will speak to PWD authorities and urged them to take up this work on priority basis by seeking permission.
“Already work is delayed and the contractor fails to complete the work in stipulated time. The prospect of a prolonged lockdown will affect the projects further so we urged PWD to speed the work,” said a local resident who was accompanying the ward Councillor during the inspection.
