MC team to cremate unclaimed bodies

LUDHIANA: The municipal corporation has formed a team for cremating unclaimed bodies as per the guidelines.
Gas crematorium of Ramgarhia community has already been finalized for cremating such bodies during the lockdown. MC secretary Jasdev Sekhon is the nodal officer for the task.
PPE kits will be issued to the team. Initially, 10 PPE suits will be arranged.
MC commissioner KP Brar said, “As soon as an unclaimed body is found, Sekhon will be informed. He, along with his four-member team, will reach the cremation ground. He will inform two other teams that have been formed at the district administration level for the purpose.”
The team would cremate the bodies wearing PPE suits. “Ten PPE suits will be kept ready with MC medical officer Vipul Malhotra. Sekhon has been told to always keep a stock of three suits,” she added.
After a cremation, the crematorium will be sanitized. MC team will then sanitize the locality where the body was found. And in case of unclaimed body of a Covid-19 victim, his/her house will also be sanitized.
Sekhon said, “The cremation ground management will bear cremation expenditure.”
