GURUGRAM: Residents of Ward No. 31 have alleged that they are trying to enforce social distancing by closing all entry and exit gates of the area except one, but shopkeepers are forced to keep their establishments open for business as the district administration has failed to deliver vegetables and other
essential items at doorsteps in the area.
Though the
doorstep delivery rule is only for containment zones, and the ward isn’t one, residents closed off the area after a promise of deliveries by the administration. Over 5,000 families live in the ward, which comprises Wazirabad, Ardee City, Sector 52, Palm Grove Heights, Residency Heights and a few other residential societies.
Kamil, a resident of Wazirabad, said residents are facing difficulties in gettingessential commodities like fruits, vegetables and groceries.
“We’ve requested the councillor to take up the issue with the district administration. A letter was written to the officials concerned, but no action has been taken so far,” he said.
Councillor Kuldeep Yadav said in wake of the lack of delivery of essential items, a lot of shops are open in the area, raising concerns of spread of the novel
coronavirus. “We are among the first residential areas in the city to close entry and exit gates. We should get same support from government agencies. I have informed authorities that there are 2,600 households in Ardee City, 2,000 households in Sector 52 and over 1,000 families in nearby highrise buildings and group housing societies. Doorstep delivery is needed in these areas. If essentials are provided at doorsteps, fewer people will gather at shops,” he said.
Residents said they have no option but to throng local shops for daily needs in the present scenario.
“Even after 10 days of raising the issue with the officials concerned, we are still waiting for authorities to take action,” said Devender Singh, a resident.
A senior
MCG official said they’ve received an e-mail in the matter from some residents, who will soon be contacted to get their issues resolved.
