SSC JE exam 2020: Subject wise preparation strategy for Paper I & II

Staff Selection Commission has postponed the competitive examination for recruitment of Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Quantity Surveying & Contracts) for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India indefinitely due to COVID-19 and lockdown.
The SSC JE examination consists of two papers — Paper-I (Computer Based Examination) and Paper-II (Descriptive Type). The subjects that come under Paper I are General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Part-A General Engineering (Civil & Structural)/ Part-B General Engineering (Electrical)/ Part-C General Engineering (Mechanical). Paper-II subjects are Part-A General Engineering (Civil & Structural) or Part-B General Engineering (Electrical) or Part-C.
For Paper I, there will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer marked by the candidate. So, candidates are advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions. Candidates are allowed to bring their own Slide–Rule, Calculator, Logarithm Table and Steam Table for Paper-II examination only.

General Intelligence & Reasoning
The section in paper I i.e General Intelligence will include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. Compared to other sections, this is the easiest of all. The total duration of Paper I is two hours and the General Intelligence & Reasoning is of 50 marks.
The Paper I will test the candidates’ abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.
General Awareness
This section is to test the candidates’ general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions will also test knowledge of current events and such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. There will be 50 questions in the General Awareness section which is of 50 marks.
General Engineering
Paper-II is descriptive type which is of 300 marks. The total duration of this Paper II is two hours. As this section carries more weightage, candidates should spend more time to prepare for this. It is to be noted that the Paper II is descriptive type, hence candidates should have an in-depth knowledge of each topic that comes under this section.
General Tips
Allocate time
Create a study schedule and allocate time for each topic. Spend more time on the topics that are tough for you. Also, choose the right time to study.
Previous Year Question papers
Practising with the previous year question papers are the best way to crack SSC JE examination.
Make short notes
While covering each topic, make sure that you make a short note out of it. These short notes will be something that you would need most during the last days of exam preparation.
