Panchkula sealing plan: 70,000 in slums can’t make a move

Rajiv Colony is one of the areas planned to be sealed in Panchkula.
PANCHKULA: Multiple cases of curfew violations have prompted the administration to plan sealing all slums and colonies having a population of 70,000. As many as 70 FIRs have been registered, a majority of them in slums, for lockdown violations.
The administration is now planning to seal Rajiv Colony, Indira Colony, Ashiana Flats, Sector 20, Ashiana, Sector 26 and Ashiana, Sector 28, Buddanpur, Kharak Mangoli, slums in Mansa Devi Complex, old Panchkula and near Majri chowk.

“No doubt, it will be tough for the administration to provide them door-to-door food and essential supplies on a routine basis but the move will help them in stemming the spread of new coronavirus,” said an official. Medical facilities will be provided and the areas sanitised from time to time, officials said. The Ramgarh-Derabassi road and all minor roads connecting Panchkula to Derabassi were sealed. As many as 37 Covid-19 cases have been reported from Jawaharpur village in Derabassi. The health department officials have been put on alert in areas adjoining Derabassi. Various persons who visited Derabassi from Panchkula have been put under surveillance.
