HYDERABAD: A sudden rise in the number of Covid-19 cases after a brief lull has become a major concern for the state government, officials said, even as one more person died and 61 new coronavirus cases were reported on Monday.
While the overall coronavirus tally touched 592, including 103 persons who have recovered, 17 persons have so far succumbed to the deadly virus.
Among the positive cases, 472 people are being treated in various hospitals in the state. Authorities said 50% cases are from Greater Hyderabad, followed by Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad and Warangal urban.
With Hyderabad accounting for 267 cases out of 592 cases, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held a review meeting on the Covid-19 spread situation in the city.
Nizamabad collector C Narayana Reddy told TOI that three new cases were reported on Monday, totalling 50 positive cases in the Nizamabad district. The collector said 20 areas have already been declared as hotspots (containment zones) and every step is being taken to prevent spread of the disease.
At Ameenpur., in Sangareddy, a seven-year-old boy was also tested positive.

Officials suspect the boy contracted the virus from his father. “The boy developed cough and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. When tested he was found to be positive,” a senior official said.
Medchal-Malkajgiri district authorities have declared Turkapally as a containment zone as two people from the same family tested positive for coronavirus. The roads and buildings department has been told to barricade entire village areas. A control room has been set up to provide all essential commodities at their doorstep.
“After Hyderabad, and Nizamabad, five districts Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad, Warangal Urban, Jogulamba and Suryapet have crossed 20 cases. Among them Vikarabad district recorded 24 cases in just three days,” a senior official of the health department said.
