Coronavirus Pune: Four deaths reported on Tuesday, tally reaches 38

PUNE: The city of Pune remains under the deadly clutches of the coronavirus pandemic as on Tuesday, four more deaths were reported at the city's Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. The death toll in the city has gone up to 38.

The deceased include a 50-year-old woman who was suffering from hypertension. In another case, a 42-year-old woman with complaints of diabetes, hypertension and asthma succumbed to death.

Another 27-year-old man with alcoholic liver disease was admitted on April 12 after he showed coronavirus symptoms. He died on Tuesday. The fourth victim of the novel coronavirus was a 77-year-old woman, who had diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism and acute kidney injury. So far, there are 76 patients admitted to Sassoon General Hospital.

Till now, there are 206 positive patients with hospitals run by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of which 27 patients have recovered and have been discharged.

Around 196 are admitted in the hospital and are in stable condition, while the health of one patient is critical.

Across Maharashtra, there are around 2,500 positive patients of COVID-19 and over 160 deaths have been reported. Also, 229 patients have been discharged to date after full recovery. There is a continuous rise in the number of positive cases in the major cities of the state, including Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Nagpur. These areas have been identified as the red zone of the lockdown category.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the nationwide lockdown till May 3. The total cases in India have exceeded the 10,500-mark, and over 350 have lost their lives in the country. Meanwhile, the global infected tally is nearing the two million mark.
