Chandigarh: 466 rounded up from 120 parks

CHANDIGARH: The police on Monday rounded up 466 people from 120 parks for not wearing masks and disobeying curfew orders.
As many as 120 parks were checked and 466 people were rounded up. Moreover, 182 violators were arrested and 56 FIRs registered against them for disobeying curfew orders under Section 188 of the IPC at various police stations, said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nilambari Jagdale.
Out of 56 FIRs, 18 were against 32 people for not wearing masks and the rest registered against150 people for disobeying the curfew norms.
Sources said all station house officers (SHOs) have been instructed to continue the drive during morning and evening at all parks and market areas daily.
The SSP said that Chandigarh Police are committed to provide all sort of assistance to citizens during the lockdown. Citizens are being persuaded to remain in homes by providing all sort of assistance to them and being made aware about availability of all essential services and goods, she said.
The provision of food and essential items is being made. Help is being provided to all, especially senior citizens and women. “Even after repeatedly spreading awareness and warnings, some people are found violating curfew orders. They are venturing out of their home for morning walk in parks. Strict action under the law will be taken for not following the curfew orders,” the SSP said. All resident were requested to adhere to curfew norms and avoid their walks till the orders are withdrawn. Strict action will be taken against the violators, cops said.
