Dadri family targeted over Tablighi Jamaat rumours

Greater Noida: Six men allegedly tried to attack a Dadri-based family on Sunday night after rumours about the son being a Tablighi Jamaat member and hiding in the house started doing the rounds.
According to a complaint filed at Dadri police station, the incident took place around 2.30am when six men arrived at the house. “They were trying to break locks we had put in the main gate. When they saw that we had woken up, they smashed the rear wind shield of our car and fled,” said Haji Salauddin, who filed the complaint.
His neighbour Saddiq said the men had come on two bikes and a scooter.
Salauddin said he has got several calls since Sunday and the caller kept asking about his son. “My son studies in Deoband University and has been there since the lockdown. It seems there is a rumour about my son being a Tablighi Jamaat member and that we are hiding him,” he said. An FIR under sections of theft and attempting to break in has been lodged. “A probe is on,” Rajesh Kumar Singh, DCP (zone 3), said.
