KANPUR: A man who died on Monday afternoon in Covid-19 ward at
Lala Lajpat Rai hospital while being treated for suspected
coronavirus has become city's first COVID-19 fatality with his samples taken earlier confirming the infection, chief medical superintendent LLR Dr RK Maurya said on Tuesday.
The man was admitted to the private hospital in
Chunniganj area of the City on Friday, and was referred to
COVID 19 hospital at LLR after his condition deteriorated. He however died on Monday afternoon.

Ashok Shukla said the necessary contact tracing, isolation and other measures as per Covid-19 protocol were being taken.
"The man, who passed away and was a suspected Covid-19 patient has been Confirmed for Covid-19 after his test report from
Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Lucknow returned on Tuesday morning. He was a resident of a locality coming under the hotspot area, was earlier treated at the private hospital in Chunniganj and was admitted to the Covid-19 ward at the Lala Lajpat Rai hospital on Saturday with symptoms of breathlessness, cough and fever," said CMO further.
CMO added all protocols were followed for disposal of the body.
"The body was sanitized completely and disposed as per the Government of India guidelines," he added.
He said the district administration has also sealed the private hospital where the man was treated initially. "Also, we are in the process of tracing the persons, who were in contact with the deceased. They will have to undergo into mandatory 14 days quarantine procedure," said CMO further.
